Welcome from the Principal

Welcome to Knapp Elementary!

At Knapp we work extremely hard to ensure that all students are deeply engaged in rigorous academic content that emphasizes higher order thinking skills. To do this, we hold high expectations for students and higher expectations for ourselves as educators.

We believe that by meeting the needs of every individual student we will ensure that each child has the opportunity to develop the social, emotional and academic skills necessary to be successful in all aspects of their lives. We have developed a strong Restorative Approach to Justice to help our students learn how to effectively solve problems with their peers. Our teachers of students with Special Needs collaborate with our general education teachers to ensure that the specific needs of each student are met. Our Specials teachers take great pride in developing and delivering a strong program of Art, Music, PE, and Technology to provide every child an opportunity to find and develop skills they can become passionate about. Our classroom teachers are exceptional in pulling everything together to ensure each child receives the individualized support he or she needs to learn at high levels in every academic subject.

Personally, I believe that a quote from Haim Ginott best summarizes my beliefs about education:

“To reach a child’s mind you must first capture his heart. Only if he feels right can he think right.”

Our front office staff, paraprofessionals, counseling staff, facilities crew and our school leadership team are all dedicated to working hard to develop a strong, positive learning environment. We are here to serve the needs of every child so he or she can “feel right” so they can “think right.” Again, welcome to Knapp Elementary, a great place to learn!

Yours in Education,

Shane Knight, Principal
