Welcome Back to School!
We hope everyone had a peaceful and healthy summer! There are a lot of big changes at Knapp this year that we are excited about.
New School Times: 8:00AM – 3:00PM
DPS is supporting new, “healthy start” school times – moving elementary schools to earlier start times and middle and high school to later starts. Knapp’s new Student School Day will begin at 8:00 and end at 3:00. Breakfast will be available for students in the cafeteria from 7:30 – 7:50 daily.
First Day of School
ECE – 2nd Gr: Individual testing Aug 23 & 24, First full day of classes Aug 25
3rd – 5th Gr: August 23
To better support our students smooth transition back to in-person learning we are bringing all of our ECE – 2nd grade students back for one-on-one meetings with their new teachers. They will meet their teacher, see their classrooms, learn about our health and safety protocols, and have an opportunity to show their teachers some of their reading skills so the teachers can be well prepared for them to start full time on Aug 25. Our 3rd – 5th grade students will start full time on August 23.
Health and Safety Guidance
We will continue to ensure our students and community stay as safe from COVID as possible. All DPS staff members are required to be fully vaccinated by the end of September (almost all are already vaccinated) and we will require everyone in DPS buildings to wear a mask except when eating. We will continue to monitor the health of our students, but we will not be doing daily health screenings and we do not anticipate having to quarantine classrooms like we did last year. We are going to continue limiting visitors from the building but will not be as restrictive as we once were. We expect that COVID transmissions in Denver will remain low but we will be monitoring it closely and stay in close communication with everyone.
Registration
We are encouraging everyone to register online through Parent Portal (instructions attached). If you want to come in to register by paper you can come Aug 12 from 3:00 – 7:00 or any time Monday – Friday from 8:00 – 3:00PM.
Uniforms
We will be requiring school uniforms again this year. Those can be purchased from the front office beginning the week of August 16 from 8:00 – 3:00. See price sheet attached.
Food Service
All students will be able to receive free Breakfast and Lunch at school this year. We still ask that EVERY parent complete the Free and Reduced Price Lunch Application. This not only helps your student with meals, but almost 50% of Knapp’s funding is based on these forms being completed. Please login to https://www.myschoolapps.com to complete your application!
Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 7:30 – 7:50AM every morning. Unfortunately, due to our health and safety precautions only students will be allowed to enter the cafeteria for Breakfast. We will not be allowing parents and non-student family members to join our students in the cafeteria for breakfast.
Lunch times will be shared with you by your child’s teacher. Due to health and safety precautions we will not be allowing families to join our students for lunch this year.
